GRACEFUL LIVING AND MINDFUL MOMENTS

Beauty Over 40: Skincare, Makeup, and Embracing Your Evolving Beauty

One thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older is that beauty doesn’t disappear with age . Personally, I believe it evolves.

When it comes to beauty such as skincare and makeup, In my 20s I spent so much time and money experimenting with trends more than figuring out what really worked for me. In my 30’s I began to finally find products that I loved and actually worked. Now in my 40s, I’ve found myself having to tweak some of those things and approach my beauty routines differently.

For me, a solid beauty regimen has become more about embracing the changes, what products are actually necessary, and the products that currently are working in my favor.

My Favorite Skincare Products

As I’m aging, my skin is changing. Before I would consider my skin to be more on the oily side. Today, it has become drier and elasticity is shifting. Because of that, my skincare is less about trying stay matte throughout the day and more about using the right moisturizing products.

Over the past few years, I’ve learned to stick with simple, effective products that focus more on hydration, protection, and skin health. At this stage, I don’t want a 27 step skincare routine. I’m more interested in zeroing in on what truly supports healthy skin.

My Current Skincare Routine

My morning routine is pretty simple and focused on protecting my skin for the day.

I like to start with a gentle cleanser to refresh my skin. On most days, following my cleanser, I tone with witch hazel.  However, 1-2 days out of the week I’ll switch out the witch hazel for a 2% BHA liquid exfoliating toner such as this one from Paula’s Choice. This toner is used to gently remove buildup in my pores and help prevent breakouts.

After toning, I always apply a hyaluronic acid and vitamin C serum. My go-to’s that are very affordable and effective are from the brand Advanced Clinical’s. These serums help lock in moisture and brighten dark spots from any hyperpigmentation. Once my serums have set, I seal everything with a good moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day. I’m not very picky about moisturizers. My advice would be to use whatever works for your skin concerns.

But of course, if I’m leaving the house, sunscreen is non-negotiable. Especially, when using a Vitamin C serum!

My Evening Skincare Routine

My nighttime routine is also pretty simple with the focus on repair and nourishment.

If I’ve worn makeup, I double cleanse to make sure everything is removed properly. After that, I’ll tone and apply my favorite tea tree oil serum by Advanced Clinical’s, and or a treatment product like,Youth to the People Glow Dream overnight mask, to support skin renewal, replenish and further lock in hydration.

Our skin does most of its repair while we sleep, so a consistent nighttime routine really makes a difference.

Over the years, I’ve learned that not every product is necessary and some can actually do more harm than good. So I stick with the “less is more” concept.

At this stage, I’m all about nourishment and maintaining healthy skin. But Let’s be clear, healthy skin is more about what you intake rather than what products you’re using. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what we put onto our skin.

Hydration, sleep, more fresh fruits and vegetables, and less processed foods all play a huge role in how our skin looks and feels. Stress, poor eating habits, and lack of rest will show up in ways you don’t want it to. Taking care of myself from the inside out is truly the major part of my beauty routine.

Less Is Always More

Another thing that has definitely changed for me over the years is how I feel about makeup.

The older I get, the less makeup I actually want to wear.

I find that lighter, more natural makeup works better and feels more comfortable to me. Heavy foundation, thick powders, and overly dramatic contour has never really been my thing but recently I’ve realized that it can sometimes make mature skin look older rather than enhancing it.

These days, if I’m wearing makeup, I love a fresh complexion, light concealer, soft natural blush, less defined brows, and a good moisturizing lip color. I feel polished without feeling overdone.

The Botox / Filler Conversation

When it comes to Botox and fillers, I believe everyone has to decide what feels right for them.

Personally, I don’t frown on subtle, natural-looking enhancements. When done in moderation and by the right professionals, they can simply enhance what’s already there.

The key, in my opinion, is balance. Everything in moderation.

Beauty Starts From Within

At the end of the day, the way you feel inside will always reflect on how you look on the outside.

Stress, exhaustion, and unhealthy habits tend to show up on our skin and in our energy. But peace, joy, and taking care of yourself radiate outward.

True beauty isn’t just about skincare or makeup. It’s about how you live, how you take care of yourself, and how confidently you move through the world.

One of the most powerful things a woman can have is confidence in who she is. There’s something incredibly beautiful about a woman who embraces herself fully, life experiences and all. In my opinion, that kind of beauty only gets better with time. Confidence really is one of the most important parts of beauty.

Beauty after 40 isn’t about trying to look younger it’s about looking like the most confident, radiant version of yourself. When you take care of your skin, your health, and your peace of mind, that glow becomes impossible to hide.
